Grant Madsen was born and raised in Salt Lake City and earned his undergraduate degree from BYU before completing an MA in literature at the University of Virginia and a PhD in History at the University of Chicago. Now a faculty member at BYU, his research explores American political institutions and the broad field of political economy, including topics like the moral and economic dimensions of military occupations.
